Sandika Hemakumari has been appointed captain of the Sri Lanka women’s rugby sevens team for the second leg of the 2026 Asian Rugby Sevens Series, which will be held on October 17 and 18 at the Colombo Racecourse.
The leadership change comes as Sri Lanka prepare to compete on home soil, with the national team aiming to produce a strong performance in front of local supporters.
The national selectors have named a 12-member squad for the tournament, which is expected to provide a valuable opportunity for the Sri Lankan players to demonstrate their skills and compete against the region’s leading teams.
Hemakumari will lead a squad featuring a blend of players tasked with representing the country in the fast-paced seven-a-side format. The home tournament offers Sri Lanka an important platform to build momentum in the Asian series and showcase the progress of women’s rugby in the country.
With the matches scheduled to take place over two days at the Colombo Racecourse, the Sri Lankan team will look to make the most of home advantage and deliver a competitive performance against their Asian counterparts.
