Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Wanindu Hasaranga are vying for the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award at the ceremony organized by Sri Lanka Cricket, while it appears that Chamari Athapaththu faces no competition for the ‘Female Cricketer of the Year’ award this time around.
The cricket awards ceremony takes place today at 7:00 PM at the Lumina venue of the Cinnamon Life Hotel in Colombo; 42 players who demonstrated outstanding talent in both international and first-class cricket will be recognized for their excellence in the sport.
Kamindu Mendis won the award for the best cricketer of the year, while Chamari Athapaththu secured six awards, including Cricketer of the Year, Best ODI Batter and All-rounder, and Best T20 Batter, Bowler, and All-rounder.
The highlight of this vibrant evening, capturing everyone’s attention, is the presentation of the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ awards for both men and women.
Pathum Nissanka, a contender for the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award, stands out for his impressive performances across all three formats during 2025. He amassed 388 runs—including two centuries—in three Test matches; 392 runs—featuring one century and two half-centuries—in 12 One Day Internationals; and 625 runs—comprising one century and four half-centuries—in 18 T20 matches.
In 2025, Kusal Mendis scored 279 runs (including three half-centuries) in three Test matches, 449 runs (including two centuries and two half-centuries) in 13 One Day Internationals, and 377 runs (including two half-centuries) in 18 T20 matches.
All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga recorded 207 runs—including a century and two half-centuries—in 10 One Day Internationals during 2025, while also taking 18 wickets.
He has taken 17 wickets and scored 61 runs in 12 T20 matches. Last year, Wanindu Hasaranga won three awards: Best ODI Bowler, Best T20 Bowler, and All-Rounder. Chamari Athapaththu, a contender for the Cricketer of the Year award, scored 332 runs—including three half-centuries—in 14 ODI matches last year and claimed 13 wickets. She also took 4 wickets and scored 190 runs in 8 T20 matches.
The First-Class Cricket Awards ceremony recognizes outstanding performances in the sport by presenting awards for Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best All-rounder, and Most Valuable Player.
In addition, the champion teams of the Major Club Three-Day Tournament, Major Club Men’s One-Day Tournament, Major Club Women’s One-Day Tournament, and Major Club T20 Tournament are honored.
