Bangladesh and Bhutan have been drawn alongside Sri Lanka in Group A of the South Asian Football Championship, while Pakistan and the Maldives will face defending champions India in Group B. The schedule for the tournament, set to take place in Bangladesh from November 4 to 17, was unveiled in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Six teams have been included in the tournament schedule following the global football ban imposed on South Asian member Nepal. Notably, arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been placed in Group B. If the ban on Nepal is lifted by September, they will be included in the group featuring the host nation, Bangladesh. Subsequently, the top two teams from Groups A and B will advance to the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka was unable to participate in the most recent South Asian Football Championship due to a global football ban imposed on the country; consequently, the organizers decided to include the Kuwaiti football team instead. India emerged as the champion, while Kuwait finished as the runner-up.
