Sri Lanka’s coaching talent will once again take center stage at LPL2026

Sri Lanka’s coaching talent will once again take center stage in the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), scheduled to be played from July 17 to August 8, with several former national players appointed to lead the tournament’s franchises.

Thilina Kandamby has been reappointed as Head Coach of Jaffna Kings, continuing a highly successful partnership with the franchise. Kandamby remains the most successful coach in LPL history, having guided the Kings to three championship titles. He will be aiming to add another trophy to his impressive record this season, with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dunith Wellalage already secured as the franchise’s pre-draft signings.

Former Sri Lanka fast-bowling great Chaminda Vaas has been named Head Coach of Kandy Royals. The franchise has strengthened its squad ahead of the player draft by securing the services of experienced all-rounder Angelo Mathews and star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

Colombo Kaps have entrusted former Sri Lanka captain Chamara Kapugedera with the role of Head Coach. The franchise has already confirmed the pre-draft signings of Sri Lanka white-ball captain Kusal Mendis and vice-captain Kamindu Mendis, providing a strong foundation for the upcoming campaign.

Former Sri Lanka leg-spinner Rangana Herath will take charge of Dambulla Sixers as Head Coach. The franchise has retained the experienced duo of Dinesh Chandimal and Dushmantha Chameera as its pre-draft selections.

Meanwhile, newly formed franchise Galle Gallants have appointed former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Pubudu Dassanayake as Head Coach. Dassanayake brings a wealth of international coaching experience, having previously worked with the national teams of Canada, Nepal, and the United States, in addition to serving with several franchise teams around the world.

With a host of accomplished Sri Lankan cricket personalities leading the franchises, the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League promises to deliver another exciting and highly competitive season.
