700 foreign players apply for the Lanka Premier League cricket tournament

Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela said that although around 700 foreign players have requested the opportunity to play in the Lanka Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament, known as the grand Sri Lankan cricket festival, only around 250 foreign players will be registered.
Online player registration closed after midnight yesterday, and around 160 top Sri Lankan players are expected to be involved in the Lanka Premier League this year. Players from Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Afghanistan and England are showing great interest in the Lanka Premier League this year
Among the local cricket stars, Dasun Shanaka from Kandy and Eshan Malinga from Jaffna are playing for Galle, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa from Galle and Dunith Wellalage from Colombo have moved to Jaffna. Kusal Mendis from Jaffna and Kamindu Mendis from Kandy are under contract with Colombo this season. Angelo Mathews and Wanindu Hasaranga from Kandy are also eyeing to play for the same team this season.
The Sri Lanka Premier League cricket tournament is scheduled to begin on July 17, with a night match between Jaffna and Galle at the SSC grounds in Colombo. The final will be held on August 8 at the R. Premadasa grounds in Colombo, and the tournament will consist of 16 night matches, including that match. In addition, there are 8 day matches. This year, the tournament will be held at the SSC grounds in Colombo, Dambulla and Kandy.
The final draft of players will be released in the coming days, and it is mandatory to include 2 Under-23 players in each team, while 6 foreign players and 14 Sri Lankan players must represent a team.
