Thurstan College wins 63rd ‘Battle of the Brothers’

Thurstan College kept up the momentum as they continued to dominate proceedings against traditional rivals Isipathana College when play ended on day two in the 63rd Battle of the Brothers big match played at the SSC ground yesterday.

Resuming the day on 39-2 in reply to Isipathana’s first innings total of 159, Thurstan posted 276 runs, which gave them a substantial lead of 117 runs. The innings saw two valuable partnerships. Hirushan Dias and Sethru Fernando shared 62 runs for the fourth wicket before a further 73 runs for the seventh between Rachintha de Silva (71) and Thanuga Palihadawana (29) that helped them to a formidable score.

However, Thurstan ended the day in a strong position reducing Isipathana for 22-2 at stumps after facing 13 overs. Isipathana still has a deficit of 95 runs to erase when the play resume for the final day today with eight wickets in hand.
