SL v NZ– Match 46 | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

All Sri Lankan fans’ hopes in the T20 World Cup ended after Sri Lanka lost to New Zealand by 61 runs.

Sri Lanka chose to bowl first and tried to restrict New Zealand to under 100 runs. However, after the 14th over, captain Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie built a strong 84-run partnership. This helped New Zealand reach 168 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana and Dushmantha Chameera took three wickets each, while Dunith Wellalage picked up one wicket.

Chasing 169 runs to win, Sri Lanka had a terrible start. Pathum Nissanka was out on the very first ball. The top order struggled and failed to build partnerships. Kamindu Mendis scored 31 runs and Dunith Wellalage added 29, but it was not enough.

Rachin Ravindra bowled brilliantly and took four key wickets. Matt Henry also impressed, taking two wickets and conceding only 3 runs in his two overs. Sri Lanka ended their innings at 107 for 8 in 20 overs.

New Zealand won comfortably by 61 runs with a strong all-round performance.
