SL v ENG – Sri Lanka’s Super Eight journey starts with a loss

SL v ENG– Match 42 | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

Sri Lanka started their Super Eight campaign with a match against England. Earlier, England batted first in their 20 overs and scored 146 runs for 9 wickets. Phil Salt was the top scorer with 62 runs from 40 balls. Dunith Wellalage (3), Maheesh Theekshana (2), and  bowled well for Sri Lanka, taking key wickets.

Chasing 147 runs, Sri Lanka struggled from the start. Early wickets fell quickly. Only Dasun Shanaka showed some resistance with 30 runs off 24 balls, but it was not enough. Sri Lanka could only manage 95 runs in 16.4 overs.

England won by 51 runs, giving Sri Lanka a tough start in the Super Eight.
