Taavi Samaraweera wins world youth contender title in Bahrain

Ten-year-old Sri Lankan table tennis prodigy Taavi Samaraweera has claimed his first international gold medal of 2026 by winning the Under-11 title at the World Youth Contender tournament in Bahrain.

 

Known as the top-ranked player in his age group worldwide, Samaraweera showcased remarkable composure in the final, defeating Bahrain’s Yusuf Albanna.

 

His victory highlights his rising talent, technical skill, and maturity, positioning him as one of the sport’s brightest young stars.

 

The win also signifies Sri Lanka’s growing presence in international table tennis and boosts the country’s efforts to nurture youth talent in the sport.
