SL v BAN, 1st ODI – Najmul Hossain Shanto led Bangladesh to a comfortable victory

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh to a comfortable win over Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, forming a partnership of 165 runs.

The 1st ODI began with Sri Lankan Skipper Kusal Mendis winning the toss and electing to bat first. Janith Liyanage was the highest scorer for Sri Lanka, scoring 67 runs off 69 balls, while Kusal added 59 runs to the innings. Bangladesh’s bowling unit delivered impactful spells against Sri Lanka’s batting order. Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib took 3 wickets each for Bangladesh. However, Sri Lanka posted 255 runs before being all out in 48.5 overs.

Chasing the target, Dilshan Madushanka claimed Bangladesh’s first two wickets at regular intervals. But Bangladesh Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto displayed superb form, scoring an unbeaten 122 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim’s 73 runs steered Bangladesh to victory. They chased down the target with 32 balls to spare. The next ODI will take place on March 15th.
