Kandy SC withdraw from Clifford Cup Tournament

League runners-up Kandy Sports Club has withdrawn from the Clifford Cup Knock out Rugby Tournament which will kick off on February 28 (Wednesday) at Longden Place.

After their defeat at the hands of CR for the second time and losing the league crown which they wore for 26 years, Kandy has officially informed Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) about their withdrawal – which is the second consecutive occasion. Last year after the draw was initiated they withdrew citing various reasons, and on this occasion they cite their players are exhausted by travelling to Colombo on six occasions, including three times in a row in their last three outings.

SLR Tournament Committee Chairman Deshapriya Hettiarachchi speaking to Daily News said: “Kandy withdrew well before the draw citing that their players were exhausted very much after travelling to Colombo on three consecutive weeks which was too much for them.”
