West Indies beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets at U19 World Cup

West Indies started the Super Sixes stage of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup with a thrilling three-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Tuesday at Kimberley, South Africa.

Chasing 232 for victory, Steve Wedderburn scored 61 off 71 balls in his first match of the tournament to help the West Indies to victory with three balls to spare.

Jordan Johnson (39), Stephan Pascal (33), and Nathan Sealey (27 not out) made telling contributions to the victory.

Earlier, Reneico Smith picked up 4 for 47 while Edward took 2 for 47 as West Indies bowled out Sri Lanka for 231 off the last ball of their 50 overs.

Dinura Kalupahana top-scored with 53, while Maisha Tharupathi hit 42.

With the win, West Indies have now climbed to second behind Australia in Group 2 of the Super Six State with four points.

West Indies qualified for the Super Sixes by beating Scotland and England after a loss to hosts South Africa in Group B of the tournament.

The West Indies stay in Kimberley to play Australia on 2 February in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.

The top two teams in Group 2 will qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.
