Sri Lanka secure first win over Japan in U19 Asia Cup campaign opener

Sri Lanka registered a convincing win over Japan in their first game of ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2023 played today (9th December) in Dubai.

The coin flipped in favour of Sri Lanka and they opted to bowl first with the aim of restricting the opposition to a low score.

Sri Lankan Skipper Sineth Jayawardene’s decision turned out to be gold as they managed to restrict Japan for just 75 runs.

The wrist-spinner Malsha Tharupathi was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as he scalped 3 wickets for 26 runs. The speedster Garuka Sanketh also shone with the ball, snaring 2 wickets.

Sri Lanka chased down the target of 76 runs quite convincingly, losing only 3 wickets. The Skipper Jayawardene carried his side over the line with an unbeaten knock of 26 runs.

Sri Lanka will play their second game of the tournament against UAE on today (11th of December) at the same venue.
