ICCA Champions Trophy from December 18-27

ICCA Champions Trophy, a premier junior cricket event will be held from December 18-27. The tournament is jointly organised by Desert Cubs Cricket Academy and Mercantile Cricket Association, with Sargia as the logistics and event partner.

The MCA President Mahesh de Alwis said this is going to be a good opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talents . Participating academy teams are Desert Cubs Cricket Academy, UAE; Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) Academy, Sri Lanka; Karnataka Institute of Cricket (KIOC), Bangalore, India; and Ramah Sports Academy, Harare, Zimbabwe.

Format and age groups are Under 13 – 40 overs and Under 15 – 50 overs.

The tournament will kick off with a spectacular opening ceremony on 18 December at 5 p.m. at MCA.

The league matches will be held from December19-26 , with the teams competing on a round-robin format, playing six matches each in their respective age groups. Scheduled rest days are December 22 and 25 for players to rejuvenate and explore famous tourist attractions in the paradise island.

The immediate past president of MCA Nalin Wickramasinghe and Desrt Cubs cricket Academy in UAE Head Presley Polonnowita the former Sri Lanka first class player had successful discussion to organize this inaugural tournament which is good for Sri Lanka to promote tourism while teams from UAE ,India and Zimbabwe will take part in this event . Earlier in June MCA under 15 and under 19 Junior teams took part at the first ever UK tour and this is going to be the second international cricket tournament for MCA Academy to get exposure.

This tournament promises to bring together top-notch academy teams from renowned cricket-playing nations, offering a platform for emerging talents to display their skills and nurturing international cricketing camaraderie. All matches will adhere to ICC playing conditions and will be held at first-class venues in Colombo.
