Rajans to host Col. Henry Steel Olcott Cricket tourney

Dharmaraja College Cricket Foundation will conduct the 22nd Col Henry Steel Olcott Cricket tournament which will be held from December 8 to 10 at Asgiriya Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

The eight team competition features leading Buddhist schools established by Colonel Olcott in Sri Lanka Ananda, Nalanda, Mahinda, Dharmapala, Dharmaraja, Maliyadeva, Rahula and Dharmasoka once again battle in this major tournament while present boys competition and old boys competition will feature during this three day event in a carnival atmosphere.

A six side school cricket tournament among eight schools including the final will be played on first day on December 8 while eight over per side tournament for the past cricketers of the eight schools will be played on the second day which is the main attraction.

The inaugural tournament was held in 1999 hosted by Nalanda College Colombo and pioneered by late Bandula Warnapura the first test skipper of Sri Lanka. Mahinda College boasts of most number of titles won outright which is seven while Dharmasoka won it five times as well as emerged joint champions on three occasions and Ananda, Maliyadeva have won it on three occasions each. Dharmapala won twice while Dharmaraja and Nalanda each having won the tournament on a single occasion.

This time this tournament will be sponsored by Fondre Fat Spread by Pyramid Wilmar (Pvt )Ltd, Nippon Paint and JN Interiors (Pvt) Ltd while for the first time several key old cricketers will be felicitated at this tournament for the first time.
