Visakha, St. Peter’s National School Games Swimming Champs

St. Peter’s College and Visakha Vidyalaya emerged victorious at the All Island National School Games Swimming Championships, conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Associaion under the guidance of Ministry of Education, conluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool yesterday.

St Peter’s College secured the title for the third consecutive year, displaying remarkable resilience under the leadership of Chris Pavithra. Despite facing uncertainty after finishing as second runners-up at the Western Province meet, the Peterites clinched the championship with 84 points, edging out the determined Ananda College by just one point. St. Joseph’s College secured the third spot with 74 points.

 

On the girls’ side, Visakha Vidyalaya continued their dominance by winning the championship for the fourth consecutive year, led by Kunuli Krishnarajah. They earned 67 points, surpassing the initial leader, Lyceum International School Wattala, who finished with 62 points. Musaeus College claimed the third position with 47 points.

Dinali Karunada of Visakha Vidyalaya stole the spotlight with her exceptional performance, securing three gold medals and setting three new meet records.

Notably, both championship-winning teams are coached by Shehaan Dias. St. Peter’s College secured their third consecutive title under his guidance, while Visakha Vidyalaya secured their fourth consecutive title, with the last two being under Coach Dias.

Kaveesha Silva of Ananda College was named the Best Swimmer for his outstanding performance, earning the highest FINA points of 622 in the 50m Butterfly event. Jessie Seneviratne from Holy Family Convent was honored as the Best Female Swimmer, amassing 585 FINA points in the 100m Freestyle.
