SL v IND : ASIA CUP, MATCH 10 – India through to the finals

Sri Lanka’s 13-match winning streak in one-day internationals is expected to be severely tested today (12th) by an Indian team that has so far been rampaging through the Asia Cup 2023, when the two sides clash in a key Super Four match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The visitors had the better day as they crush local boys by 41 runs to stay unbeaten in the Super 4 stage

Sri Lanka resumed the inning with Dimuth Karunarathna and Pathum Nissanaka. Lankans lost three quick wickets when the score reached 25.  Jasprit Bumra removed Pathuma Nissanka (6) and Kusal Mendis (15) and Mohammed Shiraj got rid of Dimuth Karunarathna (2).

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka gave some life to Sri Lankan inning by adding 43 runs for the fourth wicket.  The match winner against Pakistan , Kuldeep Yadev broke the partnership by removing Sadeera for 17. Soon afterwards set batter Charith Asalanka also got caught to the trap of Yadev for 22. Skipper Dasun Shanaka and Dhanajaya De Silva tried to rebuild the inning but Ravindra Jadeja had other ideas. He removed Lankan skipper for 9.

Dhanajaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage added 63 runs to the seventh wicket which paved the way to the victory . Dhanajaya contributed with 41.  Mahesh Theekshana did not last long (2) and Kasun Rajitha also followed with a duck .

Earlier, Sri Lanka restricted India 213 in their second game of the Super 4 in Asia Cup 2023 .India came with more confidence after a massive win over their arch rivals Pakistan on yesterday , yet could not resist to the spin bowling of the local team at the R Premadasa Stadium. Rohith Sharma won the toss and  decided  to bat first and he has put up 80 runs partnership with Shubman Gill, before Gill got out off the bowling of Dunith Wellalage

Wellalage removed  two other India’s top batters as Sri Lanka roar back into the game.  First to trap was yesterday’s centurion against Pakistan. Virat Kohli. Kholi made just 3 runs.  Rohith Sharma made 53 and he was bowled by Welllage. Rohith became the second fastest to cross 10,000 runs mark in ODI cricket.

Wellalage continued his tight spell and removed K L Rahul for 39 and India’s downfall started with same. Part time bowler Charith Asalanka justified his call by the captain Dasun Shanaka by removing dangerous Ishan Kishan for 33 with a brillient catch by Dunith Welalage.

Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja tried to consolidate Indian inning , but Welllage’s last over produced another wicket as Hardik Pandya was removed by a third umpires decision. Wellalage registered his best ODI bowling figures taking 5 wickets for 40 runs. Charith Asalanka came back to the picture by removing India’s famous finisher Ravindra Jadeja for 4 as India struggling 178 for 7 in 38.5 overs.  Asalanka did not stopped there. He removed Jasprit Bumra for 5 and Kuldeep Kadev for a duck in two consecutive deliveries.  India 186/9 Rain stopped the play for 50 minutes.
