Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 21 runs in their opening match in the super 4 of the Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh restricted to 236 in 48.1 overs . Chasing a target of 258, Bangladesh got in to a flying start. Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan put 55 runs opening partnership before Hasan got out for 21. Soon after Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka removed his partner for 28.
Towhid Hridoy kept the pressure on to him while other batters melting themselves to the spinning attack of the Lankans. He made solid 82 runs its not enough to see his side through. Birthday boy Dasun Shanaka took 3 wickets including dangerous Mushfiqur Rahim for 29. Mahesh Theekshana took 3 wickets.
Sri Lanka began their campaign in the Super 4 stage in the Asia Cup 2023 with the clash of Bangladesh. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hassan won the toss and asked Sri Lanka to take the first lease of the wicket .Dimuth Karunarathna and Pathum Nissanka opened the inning for Home team Dimuth could not last in the wicket , He was removed by Hassan Mahmud for 18. Then Nissanka and new partner Kusal Mendis had some responsible batting in the middle adding 74 runs for the second wicket before Nissanka was LBW to Shoriful Islam when he was 40. Kusal Menis made 50. Sri Lanka finished 50 overs with 257/9 .Sadeera Samarawickrama was the other batter for Sri Lanka who stood against the Bangladesh bowling attack made 93.
