Eliza cruises to ATF Tennis quarter-finals

Promising Eliza Kahagalla powered her way into the quarter-finals with a straight set victory at the ATF Junior Under-14 Girls’ Week-2 Tennis Tournament, continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.

Eliza took advantage of the home conditions and went on to beat Pruta Rao of India 6-2, 6-2 following an exciting contest.

Sri Lanka’s Yuhansa Pieris also joined the quarter-final line-up when she pulled off a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 win over Sanmita Harini of India.

Meanwhile, in the Boys’ Under-14 Tournament, Sri Lanka’s Ashlin de Silva made a winning start to his campaign with an easy win in his first-round encounter.

Ashlin got his act together well in his very first outing of the tournament and cruised to a smashing straight set win over Andre Haranadi of Singapore. However, the Sri Lankan trio of Chanthula Wickramasinghe, Shenon Anderson and Yonal Bumneth made an exit from the first-round of the event after losing their respective opening matches.

(Boys’ Under-14 Singles first-round): Him Wong (Hong Kong ) beat Chanthula Wickramasinghe (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 6-1. Kajen Ajesh (Sri Lanka) beat Delon Fernando (Sri Lanka) 6-0, 6-0. Sanjaya Kumar (India) beat Shenon Anderson (Sri Lanka) 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. Ashlin de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Andre Haranadi (Singapore) 6-2, 6-1. Ishaayu Deshai (India) beat Yonal Bemneth (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 6-1. Kubherane Mayooran (Sri Lanka) beat Thuvakar Sathiees (Sri Lanka) 6-0, 6-3. Nevan Kannangara (Sri Lanka) beat M. Dahnush (India) 6-1, 6-1. Bhishman Balaratnarajah (Sri Lanka) beat Prajeetreddy Madireddy (India) 6-1, 6-2.

(Girls’ Under-14 Singles second round): Eliza Kahagalla (Sri Lanka) beat Pruta Rao (India) 6-2, 6-2. Yuhansa Pieris (Sri Lanka) beat Sanmita Harini (India) 7-5, 7-6.
