Lankan Football Captain resigns over FIFA ban

The Captain of the Sri Lanka Men’s Football Team, Sujan Perera has decided to step down from his position of leading the national side until the FIFA ban on Sri Lanka Football (SLF) is lifted.

In a letter addressed to the President of SLF, Sujan has emphasised the reason for his stepping down from the captaincy after having represented the country in nearly 40 internationals since 2011.

“In my time I hope I did everything I can, on and off the field to help my players to perform better in each and every game,” Sujan stated in his letter.

“I will wait till the FIFA ban is lifted as captain, just to guide my boys since there’s no one to take the responsibility. My service as a player will be there until I retire,” he added.

SLF was handed a global ban by FIFA on January 21 and since then football has been facing a decline with no activities taking place. (C.D)
