Four Lankan athletes for World Para Games

Four para athletes from Sri Lanka are taking part at the World Para athletes FAZZA Grand Prix which already started yesterday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Colonal Deepal Herath, Sri Lanka contingent is ready to compete in this event to get more exposure as they had good preparation period before this Dubai tour.

The Sri Lanka team. includes Nuwandika Indika – 100M and Long Jump (T44), Saman Subhasinha – 100M and 400M (T47), Pradeep Somasiri – 1,500M (T47) and Anila Prasanna Jayalath – 100M and Long Jump (T42).

Recently Para athletes performed well at the International level while at last Paralympic games One gold and one bronze was won by Dinesh Priyantha Herath and Samitha Dulan from Javelin throw events which inspired all other para atheletes.

The NPC has clear vision to get more medals from this sport AND they have planned to give more International exposure while Sports Ministry and Dialog Axiata always give their support to uplift the sport. Dialog the official sponsor for the para sports once again came forward to provide funds for this Dubai tour.

Sri Lanka tour party also consists of two officials, Brigadier P. R. B. A Bandara – Team Manager and PDR Sumantha – Coach.

The event is highly competitive tourney is expected to attract over 650 athletes from 67 countries and Sri Lankan Para athletes should get new experience.

Meanwhile Two Sri Lanka Paralympics medalists Dinesh Priyantha Herath the gold medal winner and bronze medal winner Samitha Dulan are expected to take part in Australian open para athletics championship

Last week para TT player Dinesh Deshappriya won the gold at Egypt Para Open TT championship while both Dialog and Sports Ministry gave their support to Dinesh Deshappriya’s success.
