Sri Lanka women aim to win big in final T20 today

Sri Lanka women’s cricket team led by Chamari Athapaththu anticipatestriumphing in the final T20 in the three-match series against India today (27) at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium commencing from 2 pm onwards.

The Indian women’s team led by Harmanpreet Kaur won the opening two matches and they are in a good position to whitewash the series (3-0). However, they are planning to make a few changes going into this final T20 game to give match exposure.

However, Chamari Athapaththu made a close finish in the second game last Saturday (25) and they aim to correct their mistakes to get good momentum before the three-match ODI series which will start on June 1 at Pallekele while the second and third ODIs will be played on July 4 and 7, respectively.

Both openers Chamari Athapaththu and youngster Vishmi Gunaratne were among the run-getters who shared an 87-run stand in their last T-20 while others failed to impress with the bat as they have to bounce back in today’s game and pose a good challenge against a strong India team. The Sri Lanka team is planning a few changes in the batting department while head coach Hashan Tillakaratne has an idea to change some batters’ positions to build up a good innings total.

Sri Lankan bowlers did a decent job in both matches but the batters were not in good form. Regardless, the team still heavily depended on Chamari Athapaththu.

“This has to be corrected soon”, said a former National Women’s player.
