Sri Lanka Rugby has given permission for an invited seven-a-side rugby tournament organized by the Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) and the Police.
The tournament will be held on October 30 and 31 and will be the first time a sevens tournament has been held in Sri Lanka since the 2019 Asian Sevens.
The tournament will be organized in accordance with the rules and regulations imposed by the Ministry of Health and will be considered by the Ministry of Sports for the selection of players for the national team for the forthcoming Asian Sevens Rugby Tournament.
Kandy Sports Club will not take part in this tournament, nevertheless, Havelock and CH&FC have decided to take part in the tournament.
Accordingly, six teams namely Army, Air Force, Navy, Police, Havelock and CH&FC will participate in this invited sevens tournament and the best players of the tournament will be selected for the national squad.
The selection committee initially selected a 30-man squad, but was unable to select a final squad due to the recent outbreak of the epidemic and their inability to train for nearly two years.
However, the national squad selected after the tournament will begin training for the Asian Sevens on November 19 and 20 in a biosafety environment.
Sri Lanka Rugby will also select a coach for the national squad
