Sri Lanka to field a three-member archery team for Yankton 2021 Archery World Championships

The Sri Lankan Archery team will participate in the Yankton 2021 Archery World Championships in the United States

A three-member Sri Lankan archery team left the country recently and the tournament will be held from the 21st to the 26th of this month in Yankton, USA. This is the 51st edition of the championship.

Sri Lanka will be represented by one male and two female athletes, in addition to the services of International Referee Sunethra Seneviratne at the World Archery Championships. Ms. Seneviratne is the first Sri Lankan to represent Sri Lanka at such an event. She represents the Sri Lanka Police Archers Association.

The most experienced player to join the tournament is Sajeev de Silva of the Race Couse Archery Club. The 29-year-old represents the Recurve Men event. Sajeev is currently ranked 140th in the world in the men’s recurve category and his best performance is 656 bonus points.

Sajeev, who won the team silver medal at the 2016 South Asian Championships, is a bronze medalist in the Recurve singles event, the bronze medal in the mixed doubles event and the silver medalist in the team event at the 2019 South Asian Championships.

Anuradha Karunaratne representing the Sri Lanka Police Archery Association will participate in the women’s team. Anuradha, who is ranked 181st in the world in the Compound Women category, has the highest performance of 655 bonus points. She also excels in the Recurve Women category, ranking 376th in the world.

Anuradha, 40, won a gold medal at the 2019 National Archery Championships with a new Sri Lankan record.

In addition, Harshani Shashikala Kumarasinghe of Colombo Archery Club will also be competing in the Compound Women category. Harshni, 37, also represented the country at the 2010 Asian Games and the 2016 South Asian Championships.
