LPL 2020 – Galle Gladiators through to the final

Lakshan Sandakan was the ultimate hero as the Galle Gladiators made their way to the finals of the Lanka Premier League beating much fancied Colombo Kings by 3 wickets at the first semi final played at the Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium in Hambantoda, Sri Lanka.

Galle Gladiators won the toss and elected to bowl first and restricted Colombo Kings for just 150 runs in their 20 overs. Daniel Bell-Drummond makes 70 off 53 balls as the top scorer of the Colombo Kings.  Isuru Udana made 19.

Chasing  151 for the to take a seat in the Finals Galle Gladiators had very good start with Dhanushka Gunathilleke who is the highest consistent runs scorer in the tournament with 452 runs behind his name. But he could not continue his rhythm  this time and was gone for cheap unexpectedly trying to take undue risk. He made just 13 runs.

The colombo kings were in the game and got many opponents for low score as Gladiators loose their wickets in regular intervals

Skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksha made 33  . Dhanajaya Lakshan kept his head up till the last moment keeping Gladiators hopes alive and scored unbeaten 31 to take his side to the finals of LPL 2020. He took two wickets for 27 and his performance from the bat and ball earned him the man of the match award.

Now Gladiators will meet the winners of tomorrow’s second semi final which is between Jaffna Stallions and Dambulla Viking.
