Lochana and Achini lead SL badminton rankings

Lochana de Silva and Achini Ratnasiri are on top at the men’s and women’s singles seeding at the  latest ranking  which issued by the Sri Lanka Badminton(SLB)  for their forthcoming tournaments  which will commence after the lock down period  but re scheduled dates are not yet finalised.

According to the senior official of the SLB,  they consider the period of August 2019 to February 2020 to make their latest rankings . The six  ranking  tournament results of North Central Province Tournament(20-25 August 2019)State Services tournament (14-18 October), SSC tournament (13 to 22 November), National Championships(13-18 January), Uva Province Tournament (31 January to 5 February)Western Province Tournament (24 February to 1 March )are considered to make the rankings. SLB are plan to consider this latest ranking for their next  tournaments .

Lochana de Silva participated five tournaments out of six and emerged champions at two tournaments while he was able to reach semi finals at the two tournaments and  he reached to the quarter final at one tournament to obtain highest points 290 to came on top at the men’s singles ranking list.

Meanwhile former National champion Achini Ratnasiri has  collected 300  points to reach  on top at the women’s singles ranking . She was participated four tournaments and was able to emerge champions at the two tournaments while she was able to won runners up at the other two tournaments . However she was unable to take part at the last two tournaments.

Former National champion Chandrika de Silva who won the Uva Province tournament also reached to the fifth place at the women’s singles  . The veteran of the women’s ranking list has obtained 180 points . Meanwhile Lahiru Weerasinghe and Chiran Sudeera are on top at the men’s double ranking with 270  points while the experienced women’s double pair Achini Ratnasiri and Upuli Samanthika came to the top at he women’s double with 340 points . Hasitha Chanaka and Upuli Samanthika  were placed first at the mixed doubles ranking with 240 points .

National shuttlers Niluka Karunaratne, Buwaneka Gunathilleka, Sachin Dias, Thilini Hendahewa and Kavidi Sirimannage were not at the  singles top  ranking list as they were unable to take part most of the tournaments due to commitment of  International tournaments and  few of the tournaments they missed due to injuries . Dinuka Karunaratne the current National champion also placed fifth at the men’s ranking with 140 points and he also missed few tournaments due to International tournaments .
