IPL 2019 NEWS RCB vs MI: Kohli left fuming over Malinga no-ball howler

Mumbai Indians thumped Royal Challengers Bangalore by six runs at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. But the drama that the last ball carried with it enraged RCB players and its skipper Virat Kohli.

Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, who had taken the responsibility of winning it for Mumbai Indians after a fantastic 19th over from Jasprit Bumrah, had a straight cut task ahead of the last ball — deny the batsman a maximum and prevent the match from going into the super over.

And so he did with a fantastic low and unplayable full length ball, which the young left-hander Shivam Dube couldn’t help but guide it to Rohit Sharma at long on.

RCB vs MI: As it happened

Or so it seemed until the giant screen displayed a replay of the last ball where it was evident that Malinga had overstepped by quite a few centimeters but umpire S. Ravi failed to pick it.

Kohli, who was fuming after the replay was flashed at the Chinnaswamy, said, “We are playing at the IPL level and not playing club cricket. The umpires should have had their eyes open. That is a ridiculous call in the last ball. If it is a game of margins, I don’t know what is happening. They should have been more sharp and careful out there.”

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, too, accepted that these incorrect decisions do hamper the game. He said, “I just got to know when we crossed the rope. These kind of things are not good for cricket, one of the Bumrah’s deliveries wasn’t a wide. Players can’t do much. Very disappointed to see that.”
