Sri Lanka Cricket opened a cricket museum to display its coveted trophies, monuments and souvenirs to the public on Wednesday.
Participating as the chief guest for the opening ceremony for first of its kind in any sports in Sri Lanka, Minister of sports Harin Fernando said that he is really proud about the initiative by Sri Lanka Cricket to have a cricket museum of its own.
“This is a very good team effort by SLC and everyone must see this museum to witness our proud cricket history. We can see 1996 wills cricket world cup and 2014 T-20 world cup, five Asian cups and other cricket cups received by Sri Lanka cricket team at one place in this Museum located at the SLC” said theSports Minister.
Sections are also dedicated to display some of the glorious moments of the nation’s cricketing history, such as the 1996 World Cup campaign; 2014 T20 World Cup Campaign and also the country’s stupendous record in ‘Asia Cup Tournaments’.
A ‘Hall of Fame’ which displays the names of Sri Lanka’s test players and past and present captains of all formats is also taking a center stage at this museum.
The museum will be opened for public viewing daily from 09.00 am to 05.00 p.m.; while the school children will be given free entrance, a move aimed at inspiring a new generation of kids to learn and follow the game of cricket.
SLC chief operating officer Jerome Jayaratna who was instrumental in building up this museum, CEO Ashley de Silva and ODI cricket captain Lasith Malinga and Competent Authority of SLC Chulananda Perera also graced the occasion-
