“Sports Obmudsman” to iron out sporting issues in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s newly appointed sports minister Harin Fernando set out his plans for the new year 2019 affirming that he would do his best to iron our many of the boiling issues of sports in the country. Hence the post of Sports Ombudsman will be created to benefit all sportsmen and women and that he intends to receive a weekly report from the sports ombudsman on his findings and resolutions.

Speaking at the Sports Ministry Duncan White sports Auditorium on Monday, (31), minister of sports Harin Fernando said that if any player has a problem or any matter he can complain about this to the Sports Ombudsman at the Sports Ministry. “With the sports ombudsman’s post, I want to iron our all issues related to our sportsmen and women so that there would not be any lamentations by them to the public” said minister Fernando.

Sports Minister also said that he was getting the assistance from his Telecommunication Ministry to set up a call centre to receive complaints and other misdeed related to sports. “We are going to introduce’ 1978 ‘number for the call centre and it is open for any official or any athlete related to the sports field.” added the sports minister.

Speaking about his recent visit to Dubai’s ICC office, minister Fernando said that ICC will establish a permanent office in Sri Lanka by the ICC’s Anti Corruption Unit to eradicate corruptions related to cricket in Sri Lanka. According to Minister Fernando, ICC had stated that Sri Lanka is the most corrupted cricketing country.

Sports Minister spoke at length about the issues related to Sri Lanka Cricket and said that he had requested the help of the ICC to clean the mess in Sri Lanka cricket and that he would be willing to rewrite the sports law in order to accommodate Anti Corruption Unit to take legal action against the culprits.
