Dimuth appointed deputy to Chandimal while Suranga Lakmal in squad for NZ

Sri Lanka Cricket new selection committee headed by former paceman Asantha de Mel has stripped off consistent fast bowler and successful stand-in test captain Suranga Lakmal from his vice captaincy in the test squad and named opening batsman Dimuth Karunarathna as deputy to Dinesh Chandimal in the test squad that will leave soon to New Zealand.
Therefore, Dimuth Karunaratne will serve as Chandimal’s deputy for the series of two Tests – in Wellington from 15 December and in Christchurch from 26 December – which will be followed by three one-day internationals and one Twenty20 International.

Sri Lanka were recently swept 3-0 by England at home, and Chandimal, the regular Test captain, missed the second and third Tests of the series after sustaining a groin injury in the first game.

Sri Lanka will take five pacies in the names of Suranga Lakmal, Kasun Rajitha, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara and Nuwan Pradeep.
