By Dhammika Ratnaweera reporting from Jakarta

Sri Lanka’s woes continued to the 10th day of the Asian Games in Jakarata, as all three athletes, Indunil Herath in 800m, Gayanthika Abeyrathna in 800m and Rumeshika Ratnayaka in 200m failed to earn any glory to take Sri Lanka to the medals tally.

Competing in the 800m final, Indunil Herath came up with worst of his performances to finish last clocking a time of 1.51.36 almost four seconds later than his qualifying round timing of 1.47.54 seconds.

Gayanthika Abeyrathna, who performed well in the heats to qualify ahead of national record holder and Asian championship gold medalist Nimali Liyanaarachchi, bettered her personal timing 2.05.50 during the meet, but unfortunately finished 6th in the final race.

In the 200m, South Asian gold medalist Rumeshika Ratnayake fared well in the heats to clocl 23.79 but worsened her timing to 24.05 and finished sixth in the semi-finals thus keeping her self out from the much hoped finals of the 200m.

All hopes of the Sri Lankans for a medal in athletics depends on the team-work of the Men’s 4X400m relay. They will compete in the first round on Wednesday (29th) at 6.45pm, with the final is scheduled for the 30th at 7.10pm.
