Colombo Conference for Sports Medicine from Sep 06

Institute of Sports Medicine in Sri Lanka, together with the Ministry of sports have concluded the finalities of the International Conference for Sport and Exercise Medicine to be conducted in Sri Lanka from 6th to 9th of September at the BMICH Colombo.

Sports Medical Unit Director General Dr Lakshman Edirisinghe said the National sport policy of Sri Lanka sports should be developed in two broad directions. “Actually high performance sports where athletes are performing competitive level is one of the direction while performing sports or physical activity to achieve the health benefits is the other direction.” said Dr. Edirisinghe. Accordingly,  the Sri Lanka sports aim to archive results in both directions.

Dr. Edirisinghe further said that there will be around 25 specialists in sports medicine around the world participating at the conference to share their knowledge on the subject, which would be good boost for the local enthusiasts. During this four day conference this medical experts would contribute with immense knowledge and skills with Sri Lanka sport fraternity to turn a new leaf in the development of Sri Lanka sport.

Involvement of high caliber speakers as well as high quality participation is evident with the approval and endorsement accorded by the world renowned British Journal of Sport Medicine.

This medical conference will cover three areas; Children in sports, high performance of sports and Scientific Training methods. Sport Medical Unit Chief further added that it was expected to intergrate and consolidate sport science and medicine in a more productive way in the field of sports during these four days.

Sport Minister Faizer Mustafa also said this type of International medical conference very important to develop the sports. “We expect more than 400 foreign medical experts to this event” the minister played up.
