South Korea brings curtain down on ‘Peace Games’

The Closing Ceremony has come to an end, marking the conclusion of the wonderful celebration of sport and community that has been PyeongChang 2018.

Although many believed that the opening ceremony would be a tough act to follow, the Closing Ceremony successfully celebrated the momentous occasion that has been the 2018 Winter Games.

Peace, the central theme of the Opening Ceremony continued to flow through the Closing Ceremony via the incredible performances that best portrayed the contemporary and traditonal arts of Korea.

One of the most fondly remembered features of PyeongChang 2018, the Intel drones made a welcome appearance during the Closing, moving from the shape of a giant Soohorang to a love heart. Athletes and spectators alike greeted the Illumination in the night sky with the much-loved ‘finger heart’.

The number 1 EDM DJ in the world was a fitting final guest for PyeongChang 2018. After pumping up the crowd before the evening came to a close, the beats got faster and faster, the speaker pounded and then…the bass finally dropped and the crowd went wild.

In the sea of athletes, mascots, storyteller children and dancers, a parting appeared in the crowd. The crowd gasped as the legendary Inmyeonjo walked throught the crowd. The guest of honour was greeted with cheers as he moved to the beat of the Dutch EDM master.

The fireworks glow, the camera pans and the lights fade. For the people of PyeongChang, Gangneung and all of the Republic of Korea, this has been a celebration to remember. Thank you to everyone who was involved. See you in Beijing 2022.
