US based Hiruni betters Sri Lanka record to win Arizona half-marathon

Sri Lanka long-distance national record holder US based marathoner Hiruni Wijerathna renewed her own record in the half-marathon which set almost four years ago. Clocking  1:14:07, Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games medal hopeful won the Mesa- PHX Half Marathon at Arizona on Saturday. Thus she bettered her timing in over three minutes.

Wijerathna also holds Sri Lanka record for marathon with a timing of 2:36:35 which she clocked in Houston last month to book her berth in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April.

  • Half Marathon 1:14.07
  • Marathon 2:43.34

Accomplishments:

  • 2016 US Marathon Olympic Trials Qualifier
  • Sri Lankan 10km, 15km and half marathon National record holder
