Swimming Champion Akalanka Peiris to Sri Lanka Olympic High Performance Training Squad

Sri Lanka swimming champion Akalank Peiris has been named to the high performance training squad which will be held separately for the Paris Olympics.

The proximate reason for this invitation is that he managed to set a new national record by competing in the men’s 50m backstroke event at the World Aquatics Championships held in Doha.

There, he recorded an excellent performance in the event with 25.86 seconds, which became the first time a Sri Lankan swimmer broke the barrier of 26 seconds in the men’s 50m backstroke event.

Also, Akalank Peiris managed to be among the 22 best swimmers in the world in the men’s 50m backstroke event at the World Aquatics Championship.
