Kavishka Senandeera, the right arm spinner from Trinity college Kandy really bowled well to pick a match bag of 11 wickets as they defeated Nalanda College Colombo by 47 runs victory in their inter school cricket fixture played at Nalanda grounds Campbell Place on Saturday (29). With this remarkable victory Trinity college won the Mahela & Sanga Challenge Trophy which was presented from this year.
Chasing 174 runs for victory, Nalanda were bowled out for 127 in their second innings, with right-arm spinner Kavishka Senadeera doing the bulk of the damage. Senadeera, the match winner completed a match bag of 11 wickets after claiming 5 for 52 and 6 for 31 in both innings.
Trinity was restricted for 145 runs in their second innings and was bowled out for 165 in the opening day after being put into bat as both teams shared honours on Day One. Nalanda started the day two from 123 for 7, but could not make any headway and was bundled out for 136, after adding just 13 runs to their overnight total.
On the opening day both Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara were present at the opening ceremony of this match where two former captains with former cricketers of both schools were graced this occasion .
