Ach-Nagoya. Sri Lanka’s experienced para-athlete Nuwan Indika Gamage is set to compete in the men’s T44 long jump final tonight at the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, aiming to build on his impressive record at previous editions of the continental competition.

Indika enters the event with valuable experience and a proven ability to challenge Asia’s best, having won medals in both sprinting and long jump at the previous Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.

The 2023 Games in Hangzhou marked a major milestone in Indika’s career. He captured gold in the men’s T44 100 metres, clocking 11.63 seconds to set a new Asian Para Games record. He followed that achievement with a silver medal in the long jump, recording a distance of 6.68 metres. His double-medal success established him as one of Sri Lanka’s leading para-athletes.

Indika had already demonstrated his long-jump ability at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, where he won silver with a leap of 6.09 metres and finished fourth in the 100 metres. His successive long-jump silver medals at the 2018 and 2023 Games underline his consistency at the continental level.

Beyond the Asian Para Games, Indika has also delivered strong performances on the world stage. At the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India, he secured bronze in the men’s T44 long jump with a distance of 6.46 metres. That achievement further demonstrated his ability to compete against elite international opposition.

As he prepares for tonight’s final in Aichi-Nagoya, Indika will draw on years of international experience and the confidence gained from his previous Asian Para Games successes. His challenge will be to produce a competitive series of jumps against a strong field, with every valid attempt potentially influencing the final standings.

For Sri Lanka, his participation represents another important opportunity to add to the country’s medal tally at the 5th Asian Para Games. Having already won gold in the 100 metres and silver in the long jump at the previous edition, Indika will be aiming to deliver another memorable performance for the nation.

All eyes will be on Nuwan Indika tonight as he takes to the runway, seeking to turn his experience and proven ability into another medal-winning performance for Sri Lanka.
