Acvh-Nagoya, Sri Lanka’s para-athlete Janani Dhananjana will look to turn disappointment into motivation when she competes in the women’s long jump at the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, tomorrow, following a fourth-place finish in the women’s T47 100m final.
Dhananjana clocked 12.60 seconds in the 100m final, narrowly missing out on a podium finish in a highly competitive field. China’s Jie Shan claimed the gold medal in 12.36 seconds, leaving the Sri Lankan athlete just outside the medal positions despite a determined effort.
Although the result was a setback after her medal-winning performance earlier in the competition, Dhananjana has already demonstrated her ability to rise to the occasion. She produced one of Sri Lanka’s encouraging performances by winning the silver medal in the women’s T47 200m, an event in which she was competing for the first time.

That unexpected silver medal highlighted her versatility, competitive spirit and ability to adapt to a new challenge on the international stage. While the 100m result may be disappointing, it does not diminish the achievement of reaching the podium in an unfamiliar event.
Her attention now turns to the long jump, where she will have another opportunity to showcase her athletic ability and fight for a strong finish. The experience gained from both the 200m success and the closely contested 100m final could prove valuable as she prepares for her next challenge.
For Dhananjana, tomorrow presents a fresh opportunity. Having already secured a silver medal, she can approach the long jump with confidence, determination and the knowledge that she has what it takes to compete among Asia’s best para-athletes.
