Achi-Nagoya. Sri Lanka’s para-athletics team will look to make a strong impression at the 5th Asian Para Games as five athletes prepare to compete in the athletics events scheduled for today, with the men’s long jump final and women’s 200 metres heats offering opportunities to showcase their talent on the continental stage.

Three Sri Lankan athletes — Duddika Fernando, Mohamed Safraz and Mohamed Salman — will compete in the men’s long jump final, where they will aim to produce strong performances against some of Asia’s leading para-athletes.

The long jump event presents an important opportunity for Sri Lanka to strengthen its presence in para-athletics. With three competitors representing the country in the same final, Sri Lanka will have multiple chances to challenge for top positions. Their performances will depend on consistency, technical execution and their ability to deliver their best jumps under the pressure of a major international competition.

Meanwhile, Janani Dhananjana and Swarnamali Jayasundara will represent Sri Lanka in the women’s 200 metres heats. Both athletes will aim to produce competitive performances and secure progression to the next stage, depending on the qualification format.

The sprint event will test their speed, acceleration and race execution against strong regional competition. A place in the final would provide a valuable opportunity to compete for a medal and further establish their standing in Asian para-athletics.

Sri Lanka’s participation in these five events reflects the country’s continuing efforts to develop para-athletes capable of competing at the highest level. The team will be hoping that determination, preparation and strong performances translate into positive results.

With three athletes in the men’s long jump final and two sprinters entering the women’s 200 metres heats, attention will be focused on whether Sri Lanka can turn these opportunities into further success at the Asian Para Games.

The performances of these five athletes could prove significant in shaping Sri Lanka’s campaign, as the nation continues its pursuit of medals and recognition on the Asian para-sports stage.
