Sangeeth Cooray to lead Seven-Member Squad for Hong Kong Sixes 2026

The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has named a seven-member squad for the Hong Kong Sixes 2026, scheduled to be held from October 30 to November 1 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Sangeeth Cooray has been appointed captain of the Sri Lankan team for the 12-team tournament, as the island nation looks to build on its impressive history in the fast-paced six-a-side competition.

Sri Lanka will enter the tournament seeking to recapture the success they enjoyed in 2024, when they clinched their second Hong Kong Sixes title after defeating Pakistan by three wickets in a thrilling final. Chasing a target of 73, the Sri Lankans secured victory with six balls to spare, completing a memorable campaign under the captaincy of Lahiru Madushanka. Tharindu Rathnayake was named Player of the Series, while Sandun Weerakkody played a key role with several half-centuries throughout the tournament.

However, Sri Lanka endured a challenging title defence in 2025, losing their opening matches against hosts Hong Kong and Bangladesh. They subsequently bounced back in the Bowl competition, defeating Nepal and India before overcoming the United Arab Emirates by 21 runs in the Bowl final. Sachitha Jayatilake starred in the final with an unbeaten 52, helping Sri Lanka finish the tournament on a winning note.

The 2026 squad will therefore aim to deliver a stronger overall performance and challenge the leading teams for the championship, drawing on Sri Lanka’s experience and previous success in the tournament
