Samitha Dulan Targets New Heights as Sri Lanka’s Contingent Captain at Asian Para Games

Experienced javelin thrower aims to improve his personal best while leading Sri Lanka’s para athletes to glory in Aichi-Nagoya

Experienced javelin thrower Samitha Dulan will lead Sri Lanka’s contingent at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, carrying the hopes of a nation as he prepares to take on a dual challenge — delivering a strong performance in his own event and inspiring his fellow athletes to achieve success on the continental stage.

Appointed captain of the Sri Lankan contingent, Dulan brings valuable international experience and a strong competitive spirit to the leadership role. As one of the country’s established para-athletes, he understands the determination, discipline and sacrifice required to compete against Asia’s finest.

For Dulan, the Games represent more than an opportunity to compete for medals. They are a chance to improve on his previous achievements, set new personal milestones and contribute to Sri Lanka’s sporting pride.

“My ambition is to improve my previous record and produce an even better performance at these Games. I want to give my very best for the country and make the people of Sri Lanka proud,” Dulan said.

He also expressed confidence in the ability of the Sri Lankan contingent to make a significant impact at the Games, emphasising that every athlete has a role to play in the team’s collective success.

“We are going to Aichi-Nagoya with great hopes and determination. Every athlete in our team has worked hard to reach this level, and we want to turn that hard work into victories. Our ambition is to win as many medals as possible and bring glory to our motherland,” he added.

Dulan’s appointment as captain reflects the experience he has accumulated through his journey in international para-athletics. His presence at the head of the contingent is expected to provide encouragement to younger athletes and strengthen the team’s collective resolve as they prepare to face a demanding field of competitors.

The Asian Para Games provide a major platform for para-athletes across the continent to demonstrate their talent, resilience and competitive excellence. For Sri Lanka, the competition also offers an opportunity to build on previous achievements and showcase the growing strength of the country’s para-sporting movement.

As a competitor, Dulan will be focused on producing a performance that reflects his preparation and ambition. Improving his previous record remains a personal target, but his responsibilities as captain extend beyond the field of competition.

He will also be looking to motivate his teammates, foster unity within the contingent and encourage each athlete to perform to the best of their ability.

With national pride serving as a powerful source of motivation, Dulan and his teammates will be determined to make every opportunity count in Aichi-Nagoya.

For the Sri Lankan captain, success will be measured not only by his own performance but also by the achievements of the athletes he leads. His message is clear: the contingent is heading to Japan with ambition, confidence and a shared determination to bring honour to the motherland.
