Baduraliya Sports Club clinched the Inter-Club Women’s One-Day Cricket Tournament title, driven by Shehara Induwari’s outstanding bowling and a captain’s innings from Sumudu Nisansala. Notably, this marks the first time Baduraliya has won this championship.
Panadura Sports Club was defeated by 97 runs by the Baduraliya team in the final match held yesterday at the Colts grounds. Batting first, the Baduraliya team scored 202 runs; in reply, the Panadura team was bowled out for 105 runs in 33.4 overs. The Baduraliya team won the championship along with a cash prize of Rs. 500,000, while the runners-up, Panadura, received Rs. 300,000.
Shehara Induwari challenged the Panadura batters right from the start of the reply innings, claiming the first wicket with the team score at 10 and eventually sending five batters back to the pavilion within 5.2 overs. By the end of the match, 18-year-old Shehara had taken 6 wickets for 25 runs. Rashmika Sewwandi was the top scorer for the Panadura team with 48 runs, while Amadhi Wijesinghe scored 21; none of the other batters managed to reach double figures.
Playing a captain’s innings for the Baduraliya team, Sumudu Nisansala scored 56 runs off 105 balls, including four boundaries. She shared a 90-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Rashmi Nethranjali. Rashmi scored 30 runs, while Nethagi Isuranjali and Sachini Nisansala contributed 22 and 21 runs respectively to the innings. In the bowling department, Piyumi Wathsala claimed 4 wickets and Devagi Jeganathan took 2 wickets.
Shehara Induwari won a double award—Player of the Final and Best Bowler of the Tournament—receiving a total of Rs. 175,000. Nilakshika Silva of the Panadura team won the award for Best Batter of the Tournament along with a prize of Rs. 100,000, while Malki Madara received the Player of the Tournament award and a prize of Rs. 150,000.
