A national mission to discover javelin-throwing talent

The ‘Javelin Fiesta’—a national talent identification program organized across the country with the aim of preparing more Sri Lankan javelin throwers for international competitions—will kick off on the 31st of this month at the Bogambara Grounds in Kandy, centering on the Central Province.
Rumesh Tharanga, who has rapidly garnered significant attention in the javelin throw event, serves as the brand ambassador for this program; the Ministry also provided a financial contribution of 2.5 million rupees to support his future training and sporting plans.
A media briefing regarding this special project—jointly organized by the Ministry of Sports and the Department of Sports Development—was held yesterday at the Ministry of Sports, attended by Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage and Deputy Minister Sugath Thilakaratne; during the event, the objectives and structure of this national program were explained.
