The Ministry of Sports has apologized to the Sri Lanka Rugby Union for its failure to obtain visas and arrange air tickets for the Sri Lanka Rugby team to travel to Incheon for the Asian Rugby Championship match against South Korea.
Sri Lanka's loss to South Korea saw them drop from 37th to 48th in the World Rugby rankings.
"The Rugby Union had full responsibility for obtaining the visa. The union made a mistake there. It was a mistake to request a visa on Monday when we were supposed to go to Korea on Wednesday. Officials from the Athletics Union were summoned and questioned. They should explain how they made their selections," the minister of sports said at a media briefing recently.
