Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 41 runs in first ODI

Sri Lanka comprehensively defeated the West Indies by 41 runs in Jamaica in the first One-Day International to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing a 304-run target, West Indians were bundled out for 262 in 49.2 overs.

Skipper Shai Hope top scored with 56 off 66 deliveries but could not take his side home in the series opener.

For Sri Lanka, experienced Dushmantha Chameera was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/67 while Maheesh Theekshana finished with 2/26.

Earlier, Sri Lanka despite a slow start posted 303/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

Opener Pathum Nissanka hit 79 off 103 balls while captain Kusal Mendis scored an impressive 72 in just 62 deliveries.

The second match of the series will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
