The Sri Lankan team, which has been stuck in a rut in international cricket for over 3 months, will end that rut today (8) and take on the West Indies at 8:00 pm local time.
Sri Lanka will begin their tour with a three-match ODI series at Sabina Park in Jamaica. The Sri Lankan team will enter the field today with a change in leadership and vice-captaincy. Accordingly, Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis will serve as the captain and vice-captain respectively.
Kusal was appointed as the captain of the team for the first time in 2023 and has led 17 ODIs. This is Kusal's first time leading the ODI team against the West Indies. Shai Hope is the captain of the West Indies team and has previously led them in 4 ODIs against Sri Lanka, winning only one match.
The last time these two teams met was in October 2024 in Pallekele, where Sri Lanka won the series 2-1.
It is noteworthy that these two teams have met 67 times in ODIs, and have achieved equal victories. Accordingly, both teams have won 32 matches each, while 3 matches have ended in a draw.
