The 50th National Games, the ‘Golden Jubilee’, will be held at the Diyagama International Stadium on the 4th, 5th and 6th of December. The National Games will begin with the cross-country running and walking competitions in Nuwara Eliya on the 6th of this month.
This National Games marks a special milestone and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage said that Rs. 300 million has been allocated for the Games.
The Minister said that the best male and female athletes at the National Games will be awarded Rs. 50,000 each, and that arrangements have been made to award more prizes than last year. The Minister stated this at a media briefing held at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Sports yesterday
The final stage of the competitions, which will be held in five stages from the Divisional Secretariat level according to the Grama Niladhari Divisions, will be held in Diyagama. The winner of the individual competitions will be awarded Rs. 30,000, the second place Rs. 20,000 and the third place Rs. 12,000. The winners of the team competitions will be awarded Rs. 20,000, the second place Rs. 15,000 and the third place Rs. 10,000.
