“Many more medals will be won in Paralympics” Major General Ampemohotti

Sri Lankan para athletes continued to raise the Lion’s flag high in Indonesia as they bagged another three medals on Day to make their tally to 8 medals at the Asian Para Games now underway in Jakarta Indonesia.

Competing in the 100m T42/T63 event, all three podium positions were grabbed by Sri Lankan athletes thus making it the second time in this Games. Sri Lanka’s Amila Prasan won the gold while Upul Indika Chuladasa won the silver with Suranga Keerthi Bandara finishing with the bronze.

An impressed President of the National Paralympics committee Major General Rajitha Ampemohotty said that it was very satisfying to see his athletes are performing upto their potential and the medals are arriving in as predicted. “We are going to bring medals in the forthcoming Asian Para Games and my players are very confidenct to take that challenge” had said National Paralympic President before their departure.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the srikankasports.com Major General Ampemohotty said that the natioanl para athletes had to face many difficulties on route to the Jakarta Asian Games: “These athletes are trained well like soldiers, they never think of difficulties and they focus only on success like in a mission.” said Ampemohotti.

He further elaborated that with whatever the difficulty they had to face with, Sri Lankan para athletes had always brought honour to the country in the past and will continue to do so in the future as well. “There was a good preperation for the Asian Games and I want to thank our coaches for their hard work, head coach Harijan Ratnayake and other coaches had worked hard and I am sure they will see many more medals won for Sri Lanka at this Asian Games” predicted paralympic chief.

Major General Ampemohotti thanked the Sports Ministry and the sponsor Dialog Axiata for their support and asserted that everything that was put in would bear good results. “We are a very independent federation, there is no influence from anyone and we focus only on success” added the Major General.
