According to the current world rankings (FIDE Ratings), Oshini Gunawardena has reached the top 100 chess players in the world.
She is currently 14 years old and is the youngest player to be among the top 100 in those rankings.
Oshini Gunawardena is ranked 96th in the world with a FIDE rating of 2347.
She is also listed in the record books as the thirteenth best chess player in the world in the under-20 age group.
In 2023, Oshini won the Women's Under-12 World Cadet Chess Championship.
Oshini Gunawardena is also the youngest female national chess champion in Sri Lankan history.
Oshini Gunawardena completed her primary education at Fergusson High School, Ratnapura and is currently studying at Wycherley International School, Colombo.
Oshini Gunawardena is currently ranked third in the Sri Lanka Open Men's and Women's rankings.
Accordingly, Sri Lanka's first ranked player is L. M. S. D. Silva (FIDE Ratings 2409), second ranked is L. M. S. T. Dilshan (FIDE Ratings 2429), and third ranked is Devindya Oshini Gunawardena (FIDE Ratings 2347).
Her current coach is Akila Kavinda.
