Hatton National Bank (HNB) set a new record by winning the Merchant Services Netball Championship for the 10th consecutive time. HNB, who have won the title for the most consecutive times, defeated runners-up Citizens Development Business (CDB) by 56-28 points in the final. Fair First, who were runners-up last year, came third this time.
Former national netball captain Shashika Samarasinghe is the coach of the Hatton National Bank team, while captain Gayanjali Amarawansa won the Netball Queen award at this year’s tournament. Gayani Dissanayake of the Hatton National Bank team, Siluni Geenadhi of Sampath Bank in Group ‘B’ and Malisha Umashi of Omega Line in Group ‘C’ were awarded the Best Defender award.
The ‘B’ Division championship was won by Sampath Bank, the runner-up was IFS R&D International and the third place was won by Singer Sports. The ‘C’ Division championship was won by Omega Line, the runner-up was won by London Stock Development. The mixed championship was won by Citizens Development Business Finance, the runner-up was Hatton National Bank and the third place was won by Sampath Bank.
The best goal shooter award in the tournament held at the Minuwangoda Saniro Indoor Stadium was won by Bashi Udagedar of the Hatton National Bank team, while the best mid-order player award was won by Thilini Wattegedara of the Citizen Development team.
